Uber-Cool Gaming Mouse or Decepticon?
This collection of metal plates, bolts, wheels, weights, and buttons may look like something that Frenzy could transform into, but rest assured that this is no robot-spy-in-disguise. It's actually a mouse. Or, as its maker, Mad Catz, likes to call it, a Cyborg Rat. It's on display at CeBIT, the huge computer expo taking place right now in Hannover, Germany, and Engadget got a step-by-step explanation of what it can do.
In addition to looking futuristic and just plain cool, this new line of gaming mice from Mad Catz are customizable to the Nth degree. The palm rest can be removed or replaced to give your finicky skin different textures to rest on. The thumb rest can be expanded both horizontally and vertically to fit perfectly to the contours of your hand, and an optional pinky-rest can be attached on the opposite side for those with appendages that tire easily. The bottom of the mouse holds weights that can be added or removed to vary the weight of the mouse by up to 30 grams. There are 5 buttons on the mouse that can be customized to carry out specific functions, and a separate button that toggles the buttons' assignments between 3 possible modes, giving you 15 possible button configurations. Add to all this a "Precision Aim" button that slows down the mouse by decreasing its sensitivity so you can get that "perfect headshot if [you're] in sniper mode."
